Illinois Reads has partnered with the Illinois Secretary of State and the Illinois Center for the Book at the Illinois State Library to promote the 2024 Family Reading Night. Family Reading Night is an annual statewide event held the third Thursday in November to encourage families to spend quality time reading together. Each year, posters and bookmarks are made available for libraries, schools, youth and literacy organizations to promote their Family Reading Night Program. Registration is now open for the 2025 IRC Conference. At the conference, plan to attend one of the Illinois Reads Author Panels! There are three panels planned for Birth to 2nd Grade, Kindergarten to 5th Grade, and 6th to 12th Grade during the conference. For more information, visit the 2025 IRC Conference website.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the Illinois Reading Council will host the Illinois Reads Book Festival from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in Jacksonville, Illinois. Plan now to bring your families, students, and all book lovers to this fun and free event. Many authors will be present. Bring your books and have them signed at this event! The Illinois Reading Council is excited to share that the Illinois Secretary of State and Honorary Illinois Reads Chair, Alexi Giannoulias, has asked ILLINOIS READS to join him in his tent at the 2025 Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Illinois. When visiting the fair, look for the tent in the Children's Area. There will be story times, meet and greets with authors, photo opportunities, FREE AUTOGRAPHED BOOKS, and much more.
